Before traveling to Vegas, we did a little research and for this adventure we left the bear at home. Our evaluation: Vegas with kids is not for the faint of heart. Listen, its not like I’m wildly conservative with the little one. I mean I use “The System” which likely has some safety concerns. And I rarely hesitate to take the baby to the bar.
And we are traveling the U.S. by car this summer. We used these sites to inform our visit. Our ultimate recommendation? When traveling with family stay at non-casino hotels within close proximity to the fun. We recommend the Four Seasons, Hilton Lake Las Vegas, and Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort. The Four Seasons and the Hilton concierge teams have childcare available so that you can have fun on the lake or even day trip with the kids, but save the evening adventure for the adults.
1. Eat: Grimaldi’s at the Palazzo Grimaldi’s is one of our favorite chains- over those we’ve visited in 10 + states they are usually located in a fun area with good shopping and people watching. This location in the Venetian’s sister resort does not disappoint. After a pizza lunch, wander the canals and shops (the casino is on a separate floor), enjoy a gondola ride if you have time. Hop into a taxi (depending on the size of your family, take a luxury car for a more relaxed time at a limited price increase) and ask to travel along Las Vegas Blvd (the Strip) to see the sights from the air conditioned comfort of a car.
2. Play: Little Ones: The Children’s Park at Town Square Near Mandalay Bay, this play park is world’s away from the casino floor. It’s kind of the Vegas of playgrounds. The maze is perfectly groomed and your little ones will love the make-believe play of its bakery cafe. A children’s stage hosts daily shows and story hour.
2a. Play:Older Children: New York, New York New York, New York is still a casino but with its roller coaster and fun storefronts it doesn’t have the same feel as a lot of the more adult spots. Chocolate lovers will enjoy Hershey’s Chocolate World. That being said, it still hosts Cirque du Soleil’s 18+ show Zumanity whose posters might intrigue.
3. Learn: Shark Reef Aquarium, Mandalay Bay Boasting one of the largest main tanks in the United States, journey through a sunken temple and into the depths of the “ocean” with views you could only hope to get on a subs adventure. You’ll also find crocodiles, piranhas and puffer fish.
