Don’t let a Terror threat get in the way of a great day at the MOA. We had an incredible time but always be smart and aware, like you would be in any city. We recommend going on a weekday in the mornings to cut down on the crowds and have a more enjoyable time. The mall plays host to a pretty rocking scene on its entertainment level on Friday and Saturday evenings that is not family friendly.
Eat: Nordstrom’s cafe– but choices abound
Eating was our last stop on a jam packed day. Nordstrom’s provided a less stimulating scene with very good food and nice service. You’ll find over 20 restaurant and two food courts at the mall and most are geared towards families.
Play: Nickelodean Universe
Fun, clean and reasonably priced with plenty of choices for kids of all ages, this indoor theme park is a blast. For 44.99 you get an all day wristband for rides and entrance to the Sea Life aquarium. Otherwise purchase points per ride. We watched from a cozy bench (perfect sights and sounds for a toddler) and spent $3.99 for a trip around the carousel. Note- parents riding with children becauseof height limits, etc. ride free. All character experiences and shows are free of charge- so at the very least enjoy a walk through the park. Runners up for playtime include a full mini golf course right in the mall, the giant Lego store and the American Girl experience.
Learn: Minnesota Sea Life Aquarium
Incredibly cool experience. You descend into the aquarium from the mall and enter another world. Staff were very helpful and this site offered fun touch and feel the fish experiences. Pirate ship theming will be a hit among Jack Sparrow fans.
I have been to the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, Canada, which is very similar to the Mall of America. It is so much fun, and amazing how so much can be inside one mall! There was an amusement part, an indoor water park, an area which was a replica of New Orleans, an indoor golf course, submarine ride and an ice skating rink. Plus plenty of stores!
