KAILUA BEACH Windward Oahu, Hawaii

If long stretches of white sand beach edging an ocean of blue-green water is your idea of heaven, then Kailua Beach on the windward side of Oahu is the place to go. A handful of windsurfers, body boards, and kayaks add spots of color while picnic tables under a fringe of pine trees offer shade.

Children run across an expanse of lawn and slide down a sand bank to the beach and build intricate castles of pristine sand. After a morning of sun and fun, showers and bathrooms are available for changing clothes and heading to lunch.
